Azienda Agricola Foradori
The Foradori vineyards are found in the mountain ranges of the Dolomites of North-Eastern Italy, between the Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions. Quality wine from this area has been produced since the tenth century, encouraged by the Church and trade with Central Europe.
The vineyard was established in 1901 and purchased by Vittorio Foradori in 1939, with the first ‘Foradori’ vintage released in 1960. Control of the vineyard and its practices have remained in the family since its foundation, handed from generation to generation. At the helm today, a fourth generation of winemakers run Foradori together. Three siblings, Emilio, Theo and Myrtha each manage their own sectors; wine production, business and farming respectively. They practice with an awareness of nature’s rhythms and cycles, each vintage revealing more and more about the terroir and their grapes.
Foradori is credited with restoring the popularity and quality of indigenous Italian grapes. Primarily cultivating Teroldego and Pinot Grigio on alluvial soils. The vineyard has been certified biodynamic by Demeter International (the largest certification organisation of biodynamic agriculture worldwide) since 2009, and has been a part of ‘Renaissance des AOC’ (the ‘Return to Terroir’ group), with an aim to produce high quality wines that are a true expression of the appellation.
Not only growing grapes, Foradori practice farming the land as a closed-cycle organism rather than with a singular purpose. The grass between the vines are tended to, hedges and animals thrive on the estate. The vineyards are home to blackbirds, thrushes and finches. Along with butterflies and bees in the springtime. Being self-sufficient is of equal priority as making wine, caring for the land and caring for the animals that call it their home.
