SC PANNELL NERO DIAVOLA 2024

If Grenache had a slightly wilder Italian cousin, this would be it. Bright, juicy, full of personality and an absolute joy to drink. Steve Pannell has taken Sicily's beloved Nero d'Avola and given it a distinctly McLaren Vale twist, with spectacularly delicious results. There's a wonderful rush of red cherries, ripe raspberries and blood orange, all wrapped up in fragrant purple flowers and a cheeky little hit of spice. Then come the more intriguing bits- Italian amaro, dusty terracotta, dark chocolate and a subtle earthy edge. The palate is wonderfully energetic, bursting with crunchy red fruit and a generous splash of cherry sweetness. Fine, chalky tannins bring just enough grip to keep things interesting, while a bittersweet chocolate note adds a lovely savoury finish. It's vibrant, playful and beautifully balanced, with all the charm of a lighter red and enough depth to keep you coming back. A seriously fun wine from a seriously talented winemaker. Don't overthink this one – just enjoy it.
