Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz 2020

Newest release from Yarra Yering, how lucky we are to receive allocation from their 2020 vintage!

From a single block of Shiraz planted in 1973, 8 acres worth at the westernmost border of the Yarra Yering vineyards. Harvested by hand, only the best fruit is chosen. Half of the harvest is fermented and matured in 3500L upright oak casks, 20% whole bunches and 80% whole berry. The other 50% ferments in half-tonne open tanks, hand plunged twice daily. Half the wine is aged in the 3500L uprights, while the rest ages in 10% new French oak puncheons.

The cooler 2020 season brings perfumed, delicious Yarra Valley Shiraz with just a hint of aniseed spice. Bright red and blue fruits bring a vibrance and energy whilst notes of char and spice add layers to the complexity. There are the typical Underhill block flavours of cured meat and smoke, backed up by its oak ageing. One for the ages.
