Wine + Soul Vinha do Altar Branco 2024

From the dramatic, schist-covered slopes of Portugal's Douro Valley comes a white wine with plenty of personality and a lovely sense of finesse. The talented duo behind Wine & Soul, Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges, have created a beautifully expressive take on the region's traditional white varieties. Bright lemon zest, juicy white peach and fresh pear lead the way, with delicate floral notes and a little wild herb complexity adding interest. There's a wonderful mineral character running through the wine, bringing a subtle saline edge and plenty of freshness. A cool, carefully controlled fermentation followed by six months on fine lees gives the palate a gorgeous, gently creamy texture without sacrificing its lively acidity. Elegant, energetic and beautifully balanced, this is a Douro white that manages to feel both generous and wonderfully precise.
A delicious reminder that the Douro has plenty more up its sleeve than its famous reds.
