West Cape Howe Old School Chardonnay
This Chardonnay is like a warm hug in a glass â rich, creamy, and full of character. Sourced from specific blocks in the Langton and Karri Oak vineyards in Mount Barker, itâs picked a little later than their Styx Gully Chardonnay to produce a fuller style. The wine underwent barrel fermentation and maturation in French oak, with 20% new oak, for 8 months. Two of those months were spent on lees with fortnightly stirring, and it went through full malolactic fermentation to produce a textured, full-flavoured style Chardonnay. Expect aromas of ripe peach and apricot, complemented by hints of honeycomb, crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e, and citrusy nougat. The palate is rich and creamy, with flavours of vanilla bean custard, peaches, and white nectarine. Itâs a wine thatâs soft, rich, and toasty, with no sharp edges â like silky smooth velvet.
