Vigneron Schmolzer + Brown Grauburgunder 2024

“This is a single vineyard pinot gris, fermented on skins, from King Valley. It makes very clever use of the variety. Moody pink in colour, you know what you’re in for from the clear glass of the bottle to your own glass, and thank you very much. It’s heady in nashi pear and gingery spice scents but also cranberry, pomegranate juice and rose hip tea. The palate follows through with similar, a slippery texture that flows into an attractive grip and gentle pucker, an understatement to it all but plenty going on. A faint savouriness, some green almond and cashew perhaps, subtly in there as well. A very complete and compelling rosé.” Awarded 94 points by Mike Bennie, for The Wine Front
