Valli Waitaki Chardonnay 2022

The 2022 Valli Waitaki Vineyard Chardonnay is a masterclass in cool-climate elegance from North Otago’s limestone-rich soils. Crafted by winemaker Jen Parr, this Chardonnay offers a complex nose of lemon zest, green apple, lime, hazelnut, and a distinctive savoury note from high solids fermentation. The palate is taut yet satiny, with citrus flavours harmonizing with a silky texture, leading to a long, racy finish. Hand-harvested in late April, the wine underwent fermentation in French oak barriques (25% new) with weekly lees stirring, and was bottled without filtration. Limited to just 294 dozen, this wine is both immediately intriguing and poised to evolve over the next 12+ years.
