Stonier Hillcrest Pinot Noir 2024

The Hillcrest Vineyard is a small north east facing site in Shoreham, planted in 1994 by the Coronel family, farmed by Stonier since 2009. Planted on red volcanic soils, and high elevation, it is one of coldest vineyards managed by Stonier.

Savoury, earthy, floral, some stems, some sap. Lovely profile. So much savouriness. So much grainy, herb-flecked, earthen tannin. This is distinctive in the best of ways. Julian says that “this was the hardest wine for me in terms of being comfortable bottling it”. But I love its stringy, herb flecked tannin, backed by confident, red/black berried fruit. with the length and composure to match. This is a wine for those who love some overt earth-sap-leaf-whole-bunch character in their Pinot Noir.  For what it’s worth, this wine is my personal favourite in the range.  94+ Points, Campbell Mattinson
