Scorpo Old Cherry Orchard 10K Pinot Noir 2021

The Scorpo Eocene Pinot Noir, from the Scorpo family vineyard in Merricks North, on Australia’s Mornington Peninsula, combines old world practices with the new world – emulating the traditions of Burgundy, Alsace and Côte-Rôtie with the Mornington Peninsula flavours.  Old Cherry Orchard is a high density vineyard planted at 10,000 vines per hectare (1 vine every metre).

Critics thoughts - A high density vineyard planted to the Abel clone.

Cherries, poached rhubarb with orange and ginger, a fair bit of spice here, porcini mushroom. It’s bright, spicy, a little sappy and quite savoury with its earthy mushroom, dried herb and amaro twang, along with red fruits. Tannin quality is very good with a graphite grip, and the finish is really long. It’s a distinctive wine, and quite unlike many, not least because of its somewhat Italianate character. Like it. Very good. Lots of energy too.  95 Points WineFront Gary Walsh
