SC Pannell Sunset 100 Grenache 2023

From ancient bush vines planted in the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs, Steve Pannell has crafted a Grenache that's every bit as impressive as its remarkable origins. This is the inaugural release from the Sunset block, a spectacular patch of old vines that soak up the afternoon sun. The aromas are absolutely captivating- dark cherry, pomegranate, blood orange and blackberry, with rosehip, dried flowers and a generous sprinkle of exotic spice. There's a lovely earthy character too, with warm terracotta, wild fennel, star anise and a little dried orange peel adding plenty of intrigue. On the palate, things get seriously interesting. Rich, concentrated fruit meets vibrant acidity and a beautifully woven network of fine, rustic tannins. It's powerful without being clumsy, with layer upon layer of flavour revealing itself as the wine opens up. The finish seems to go on forever, leaving behind dark berries, savoury spice and a wonderful sense of place. A magnificent expression of old-vine Grenache that deserves a little time in the glass.
