Rieslingfreak No. 2 Polish Hill Riesling
To call John Hughes a rising star of Australian wine is to down-play his meteoric rise to the upper echelon of South Australian Riesling over the last decade. His winery, centralised around the production of fantastic Riesling, is now one of the most trusted names in Australian whites to those in the know.
The #2 is sourced from a single block in the Clare Valley's most famous Sub-region: Polish Hill River. With the duality of wonderful drinkability now + over 10years of cellar life in the tank, this iteration is arguably the best value Riesling in the country right now!
"The fruit for this No. 2 is from Polish Hill River, a subregion in Clare Valley. On the nose, there's juniper berry and cassis, thyme and rosemary, green apple skin and brine. The fruit on the mouth is fleshy and concentrated—the shape of it is almost round—but don't mistake this for soft. The phenolics are firm on the tongue and on the back of the palate. This is a structural Riesling, and it is one with great power and density through the finish. Very impressive. I love the finish on this wine. It's feathered, talcy, textural and flavorsome. 11.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - 96pts Erin Larkin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
