Neldner Road Loechel Eden Valley Shiraz 2021

There’s something pretty special about old-vine Eden Valley Shiraz, and this beauty makes a convincing case. Sourced from a single vineyard planted by the Loechel family over half a century ago, it’s a wine with plenty of personality and serious depth. Generous blackberry, black cherry and cassis get things started, followed by dark chocolate, mocha and a lovely dusting of spice. There’s a delicious savoury side too, with hints of black olive, smoked meats and dried herbs adding another layer of intrigue. 18–22 months in French oak barriques, using approximately 50% new oak and second-use barrels, brings richness and polish without stealing the show. The palate is beautifully concentrated, with dark, inky fruit wrapped around fine tannins and a wonderfully lively streak of citrus-like acidity. Powerful without being heavy, this is a beautifully balanced Shiraz that keeps revealing something new with every sip. Long, complex and seriously satisfying. Eden Valley doing what Eden Valley does best.
