Mee Godard Beaujolais White 2023

Ah, the lovely Beaujolais Blanc! You’d be forgiven for thinking it’s all about reds here in Beaujolais, but this Chardonnay from Domaine Mee Godard is an absolute gem. Picture a nose bursting with ripe pears, crunchy hazelnuts, and just a whisper of orange zest – it’s fresh and inviting, with a touch of vanilla like a soft cashmere blanket. The mouthfeel? Smooth and creamy at first, then bam! That bright mineral zing takes over, lifting the wine and giving it a beautiful, fresh finish. Mee Godard’s focus on quality and sustainable farming shines here – a true example of what Beaujolais can do with white wine. It’s a lovely drop, so approachable yet full of character. You’ll be coming back for more.
Critics thoughts -  A remarkably ripe and texturally complex wine for a white Beaujolais. Could almost be Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru. So many peaches and apricots on the creamy, medium-bodied palate. Long, polished finish. Limited production from a site with alluvial soil close to Belleville. Matured in a concrete tank. Drink or hold. 94 points - James Suckling.

The 2023 Beaujolais Blanc comes from vines in Belleville and is vinified/aged in concrete. It offers yellow plum and lemon verbena aromas on the nose, with touches of lime underneath. The palate is well balanced, with a lovely texture and a keen line of acidity. Neal Martin, Vinous.
