La Spinetta Timorasso 2023

Staff thoughts - Timorasso was almost extinct but was brought back in its homeland of Piedmont. Fabulous structure that supports citrus and floral notes and has excellent length.  Rob MWS

Michaels thoughts - La Spinetta is one of Italy's most celebrated and awarded producers, counted within the top 3 most successful producers in Italy's chief wine publication - The Gambero Rosso - being awarded the second most Tre Biccihieri ratings (Antinori & Gaja tthe others). The grapes for this wine (Full Name: La Spinetta Colli Tortonesi Derthona Timorasso) are organically grown on estate owned & contracted sites amongst the Tortona hills. It is vinified on native yeasts in stainless stell and aged on lees.

La Spinetta's history is long, a multi-generation produced that has been praised for decades for Piedmontese wines centred around Nebbiolo production. The evolution of the estate to now include high quality white production demonstrates the willingness of the family to continue to push boundaries. This one of, if not THE, best example of this grape in the current market at this price level.  Michael Morgan

Wineries thoughts -  Timorasso is an ancient indigenous grape variety of Piemonte. Grapes for our 2023 vintage were grown in the villages of Montemarzino, Montegioco and Monleale. The vineyards face southwest and southeast at an altitude of 350-400 metres. The soils are marly, calcareous, clayey, and contain some sand.

The grapes are destemmed and softly pressed, followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled small steel tanks. The wine rests on its fine lees for eight months, then is filtered and bottle-aged for a further three months before release.

The wine shows an incredible structure and longevity, with delicate citrus and floral notes that harmonise beautifully, leading to a vibrant, long finish. – La Spinetta

Critics thoughts - The 2023 Timorasso is an attractive, expressive white from La Spinetta. Proprietor Giorgio Rivetti and his team crafted a Timorasso endowed with generous tropical fruit, spice and floral notes. Soft contours, unusual for Timorasso, add immediacy. This is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. 92 points. Antonio Galloni, Vinous
