Jim Barry Clarevale Cabernet Malbec 2018
The Clarevale Co-operative marked Jim Barry's start as Clare Valley's first qualified winemaker in 1947, shaping both his career and the region's viticulture. Encouraging a shift from fortified wines, he promoted Shiraz, Cabernet, Malbec, and Riesling plantings, even offering free rootlings. His legacy, spanning two generations, paved the way for this Cabernet-Malbec blend, paying homage to his foresight. The 2018 vintage offers dark blue and black fruits, forest floor, clove spice, and dark chocolate notes, with a fine-boned tannin profile and medium-bodied, feminine structure. Produced from estate-grown grapes in Spring Farm, Clare Valley, this inaugural release embodies Barry's vision. Oak-aged in 1-year-old hogsheads, it boasts 13.0% Alc/vol, 6.41g/L total acid, and a pH of 3.53, with a drinking window from now until 2050+. Crafted by winemakers Tom and Sam Barry, serve at 16-18˚C for optimal enjoyment.
