Henschke Green's Hill Riesling 2008

This is what happens when Riesling is given plenty of time to stretch its legs. Coming from Henschke’s cool, high-altitude Lenswood vineyard, it still carries that lovely line of freshness, but age has brought a whole extra layer of flavour and complexity. Citrus blossom, pink grapefruit and lemon curd lead the charge, followed by lime marmalade, toasted brioche and a little baked custard richness. The palate is concentrated and wonderfully alive, with cumquat, yuzu and lime wrapped around notes of honeysuckle and beeswax. There’s a gorgeous interplay between mature, savoury character and bright citrus fruit. Mineral acidity keeps everything tight and energetic rather than heavy. Long, layered and seriously interesting, this is mature Riesling showing exactly why the variety can age so beautifully.
