This is exactly the sort of Nebbiolo you want when Barolo feels like a little too much commitment. Coming from the sandy hills of Roero in Piedmont, it’s wonderfully fragrant and fine-boned, with fresh cherry, raspberry and rose petals jumping from the glass. Liquorice, woody earth, black tea and a little spice bring plenty of classic Nebbiolo character without weighing things down. The palate is bright and energetic, driven by mouth-watering acidity and a lovely dusting of fine, slatey tannin. Nine months in large Slavonian oak rounds the edges while keeping the fruit fresh, savoury and beautifully transparent. Elegant, vibrant and ridiculously easy to get along with – proper Nebbiolo character in a much more immediately approachable package.
