Gentle Folk Basket Range Chardonnay 2024

In their words -  A vineyard we have been working with for some time but the first single vineyard release from it - 2.5 ha in Basket Range, across the valley from our home, its very steep. beautiful and surrounded by native forest. Similar in profile to Ashton, the Basket Range vineyard has some beautiful red clay soil and a northerly aspect resulting in a wine with boldness and texture and some beautiful stone fruit characters and retaining that great line of acid we get in the Hills.

Vinification: Whole bunches were pressed to tank for settling over night before racking off heavy solids to barrel. The wine spent 11 months in French and Austrian oak, 20% new, before racking to tank for three months and then bottled. 100% full malolactic fermentation.

Critics thoughts - Get this wine onto your radar pronto.  It tastes of popcorn, white peach, custard powder and citrus, among other things, but it’s the satiny softness of it, and the exquisite cohesion, and the purity of the finish that really defines its quality. Toasty, creamy oak plays a role but the fruit, the polish and the finish of this wine are all of the highest class.  95+ Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
