Gunderloch Pettenthal GG Riesling 2024 (AO)

Ripe peach and red apple, followed by citrus, smoky spice and that wonderful wet-stone character great Riesling does so well. There’s plenty of concentration, yet the wine feels remarkably light on its feet. The Pettenthal’s steep red-slate soils bring a lovely mineral tension, with a slightly savoury, almost earthy edge running beneath the fruit. Spontaneous fermentation and ageing in large, used oak add texture without getting in the way of the vineyard. The palate is juicy and energetic, combining creamy fruit with bright acidity and a fine, pithy grip. Everything tightens beautifully through the finish, where citrus zest, spice and a distinctly salty mineral note hang around for ages. Powerful, precise and wonderfully alive- this is top-flight dry Riesling with plenty still up its sleeve.
