Champagne Thierry Fournier Leuvrigny Grands Champs 2020

Rich, vinous and wonderfully expressive, but still carrying plenty of freshness. Made from 100% Pinot Meunier. It comes from a single parcel in Leuvrigny in the Vallée de la Marne, where clay and limestone soils give the wine plenty of personality. Ripe red apple, lemon zest and white flowers meet brioche, cream, toasted nuts and a gentle touch of vanilla. Half the wine is raised in old Burgundy barrels and half in stainless steel, giving it a lovely balance between texture and precision. Extended ageing on lees brings a creamy, finely textured mousse and plenty of savoury complexity. There’s real volume through the palate, balanced by bright acidity and a distinctly saline, mineral edge. Dry, energetic and beautifully detailed, with the kind of long, savoury finish that makes grower Champagne so much fun to explore.
