ChaLou Sauvignon Blanc 2025

Think you know Sauvignon Blanc? This little beauty from Orange might just change your mind. Steve Mobbs and Nadja Wallington are doing some seriously exciting things at ChaLou, and their take on Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing departure from the usual tropical fruit explosion. Grown high in the cool hills of Orange, where volcanic soils and chilly nights work their magic, this is Sauvignon Blanc with a little more sophistication and plenty of personality. There's a gorgeous burst of grapefruit, fresh lime and citrus blossom, with hints of elderflower, passionfruit and fragrant herbs adding a lovely aromatic lift. Then come the more intriguing characters- a touch of baking spice, roasted cashew and a whisper of something wonderfully mineral. The palate is bright and energetic, with juicy lychee, yellow grapefruit and beautifully focused citrus fruit. A fine, almost silky texture brings a little extra generosity, while vibrant mineral acidity keeps everything wonderfully fresh. It's elegant, beautifully balanced and full of subtle surprises, with a long, zesty finish that leaves you wanting another sip. A cracking example of just how exciting Australian Sauvignon Blanc can be when someone decides to do things a little differently.
