ChaLou Pinot Gris 2025
From the high-altitude vineyards of Orange, winemakers Nadja Wallington and Steve Mobbs have crafted a beautifully expressive Pinot Gris that's packed with personality, texture and a wonderful sense of place.
The nose is wonderfully fragrant, with ripe quince, crunchy nashi pear and Pink Lady apple mingling with hints of fresh ginger, lemon rind and delicate florals. A little time on skins before pressing brings an extra dimension to the wine, adding lovely texture and a gentle savoury edge. Wild fermentation and maturation in older French oak lend subtle richness and complexity while allowing the vibrant orchard fruit to take centre stage.
The palate is generous yet beautifully balanced, with juicy pear, ripe stone fruit and a whisper of tropical sweetness playing against bright, refreshing acidity. There's a delightful waxy texture and gentle phenolic grip that give the wine plenty of character without compromising its elegance. The finish is long, fresh and wonderfully savoury, with lingering citrus, ginger spice and a lovely mineral undertone. A cracking example of just how interesting Pinot Gris can be when given a little extra love in the winery.
