Best's Young Vine Pinot Meunier 2025
In their words -Ā Generally used in sparkling wine production, Pinot Meunier is rarely made as a straight-table red wine.
Ā
However, at Best's we have been producing small quantities of single-varietal red wines from Pinot Meunier since the 1960s, with the vineyards and wines gaining cult-like status (and loyal followers) along the way.
Ā
This unique wine comes from our āYoung Vineā plantings of Pinot Meunier which were established in 1970- a century after our āold vineā plantings and grown from cuttings of those original vines.
Ā
With the maturity of the newer plantings and grafting at our Salvation Hills vineyard, we welcolmed fruit from both these parcels in 2024 and continue to do so in 2025.
Red fruits of cranberry, crushed strawberry, blood orange and orange peel. Confected blue notes of musk stick and cherry cola. Beautifully soft and vibrant exhibiting a soft tannin line with latent power.
Ciritcs thoughts - āThe 2025 Young Vine Pinot Meunier leads with watermelon and strawberry, star anise, pink peppercorns and sandalwood. This is lacy and delicate, with an attractive base of finely wrought yet subtleĀ grainy tannins. The red fruit/flowers of Pinot Meunier rise to dominance hereāwhat gorgeous wine. Fresh, saline acidity marks the finish. This is very pretty. 13 % alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
The fruit for this wine comes from Pinot Meunier vines that were grown from cuttings using the original Pinot Meunier vines planted on the property in 1866, which are still healthy and producing fruit today.āĀ 95 points Erin Larkin Robert Parket Australia
