Pooley Butcher's Hill Chardonnay 2023
Pooley Wines, a family-owned vineyard established in 1985 by Denis and Margaret Pooley, is renowned for its premium cool-climate wines from the Coal River Valley in southern Tasmania. In 2003, John Pooley and his wife Libby expanded the estate with the Butcher’s Hill vineyard. After Margaret’s passing in 2010, her granddaughter Anna Pooley returned to the family business in 2013, leading to Pooley Wines being entirely family-operated.
Recognised as one of Australia’s top cool-climate producers, Pooley Wines received the 2023 Winery of the Year award from Halliday Wine Companion. The Butchers Hill Vineyard, benefits from a north-facing slope and ferricrete soils, which enhance the complexity and robustness of the wines. The steep north-facing slope of Butchers Hill, ranging from 30 to 100 meters above sea level, receives long hours of sunlight, protection from cold southern winds, and increased soil drainage, resulting in exceptional wines that showcase the best of the region's terroir and winemaking techniques.
