San Salvatore Vetere Rosato IGP 2024

A cracking alternative for anyone who likes pale rosé but wants to wander a little further south than Provence. From vineyards near Paestum in southern Campania, this is pale, delicate rosé with plenty of Mediterranean flair. The grapes spend just six hours cold macerating before gentle pressing, giving the wine its beautifully light pink colour. Wild strawberry and red berries lead the way, joined by rose, violet and a touch of Mediterranean herb. The palate is fresh and silky, with juicy berry fruit, grapefruit and a lovely savoury, saline edge. Around six months in stainless steel keeps everything bright, pure and energetic. It’s dry, elegant and wonderfully refreshing, but still has enough character to remind you that this is unmistakably Aglianico. Aglianico might be better known for big, serious reds, but here it’s showing off its much prettier side.
